Remove Background from an Image — Free Transparent PNG

Drop in a photo. The subject stays the same, the background goes transparent, and you download a PNG you can place on white, a flat color, or another design. The free cutout runs in your browser and does not upload the picture. A sharper pro cutout and a new scene are optional.

Remove the background, keep the photo you already took

Drop a picture on this page and download a transparent PNG. The free cutout runs in the browser and does not upload the file. Desktop can ask for a finer local pass. Hair and glass can use the pro cutout at 2 credits. White and flat colors are composed locally. Studio, outdoor, and office cost 5 credits and paste the same subject onto a new empty backdrop. A solid-color backdrop can also use the color-key tool instead.

How to remove a background from an image

Three steps, on this page.

  1. 1

    Drop in the photo

The free cutout starts in your browser. The picture is not uploaded. The first visit downloads the model.

  2. 2

    Check the edge

Keep the result, ask for a finer desktop pass, or use the pro cutout at 2 credits for hair and glass.

  3. 3

    Download the PNG

Save the transparent PNG, or place it on white, a flat color, or a new scene before you download.

Remove a background without redrawing the subject

A cutout keeps the person, product, or logo you already photographed and only removes what sits behind it. The download is a PNG with a real alpha channel, at the resolution the cutout produced. Faces, packaging text, and product edges are not regenerated.

  • The subject stays put — Pixels of the person or product are kept. Only the background is removed.
  • A real transparent PNG — The file has an alpha channel, so it sits cleanly on white, a color, or another layout.
  • No prompt box — You drop a photo in. There is nothing to describe and no model picker on this page.

Free in the browser, sharper when you ask

The default cutout runs on your device. The picture is not uploaded, and that pass does not spend credits. The first visit downloads the model, then the browser keeps it. On a desktop you can ask for a finer local pass. Phones stay on the default. Hair, glass, and soft edges can move to the pro cutout, which uploads the photo and costs 2 credits. A failed pro result is refunded.

  • Free, on your device — The default cutout does not upload the photo and does not ask you to sign in.
  • Finer on desktop — A second local pass is there when the desktop browser can run it. Phones do not get this pass.
  • Pro cutout, 2 credits — Hair and translucent edges can use the paid cutout. New accounts can spend welcome credits. No alpha means a refund.

White, a flat color, or a new scene

After the cutout, a white or flat-color backdrop is composed on your device and does not cost extra. Studio, outdoor, and office are different: a new empty backdrop is generated, then the cutout subject is placed on it. That step costs 5 credits and does not redraw the subject. There is no brush for painting the matte back, and there is no batch queue on this page.

  • White and flat color — Composed locally from the cutout you already have. No extra charge.
  • Three scenes, 5 credits — Studio, outdoor, or office. The subject is pasted onto a new empty backdrop.
  • Color-key is a different tool — A solid studio backdrop can also be keyed by clicking a color. That tool does not cut hair.

What people remove backgrounds for

One photo in, a cutout you can reuse.

Product photos

A catalog shot becomes a transparent PNG you can drop on white or a marketplace template.

Portraits and logos

A person or a mark comes off a busy backdrop without redrawing the face or the lettering.

Slides and layouts

The same PNG sits in a slide, a shop listing, or a design file because the background is actually transparent.

What is background removal?

Background removal keeps the subject of an existing photo and makes the area behind it transparent. The result is a PNG with a real alpha channel, so that subject can sit on white, a flat color, or another layout. It is not the same as recoloring a solid backdrop, and it is not the same as drawing a new picture.

What is a transparent PNG?

A transparent PNG stores an alpha value with the color of each pixel. Where alpha is zero, that pixel is see-through. Where it is partial, edges such as hair can blend into whatever sits behind. A JPEG cannot do this, because it has no alpha. Saving a cutout as JPEG paints a background back in.
